The goal is to increase each student’s ability to create realistic, three-dimensional drawings. Fine art elements – line, shape, color, form, space, value, and texture – are all covered and build a strong foundation in making art. Students explore shading, light, shadow, proportionality, and perspective in projects like still life, portraits, figure drawing, and landscape. we work primarily in pencil, charcoal, thin line markers, pen, sharpies, and ink. Students discover compositional strategies and ways of analyzing their artistic choices to become more aware of their creative process and develop the skills necessary to produce thoughtful personal artwork. Students can begin classes at any level of skill and will excel at their own rate. Each student will receive individual attention and instruction.

Students will learn to paint with acrylics/watercolors or advance their painting and creative skills. Choosing paints, painting surfaces, paint, and brushes are covered before starting a painting project. Students learn basic color theory based on the Muller Color theory and color mixing, textures, and techniques through guided exercises. Students work at their own pace, and no previous skills required.

Students use mixed media and repurposed objects to create both two-dimensional and three-dimensional artwork. Students learn to problem solve and construct complex sculptures, often with lighting or moving parts. 3D artwork is created using cardboard, clay, wire, paper, paper mache, plaster, wood, fabric, and other materials. They learn a variety of art techniques, such as printmaking, relief printing, working with metal, abstract and realistic art, pop art, kinetic art, and one-point perspective. Projects often are inspired by contemporary artists. Projects are usually on a large scale and take several weeks to complete.
