Cabinet of Curiosities Exhibition
Saturday, January 22 6:30-8:30pm
Imagine a world without TV, computers, and phones. How would you entertain your guests after dinner or spend time without these devices? Cabinet of curiosities, also known as cabinets of wonder, was the aristocrat’s solution for entertainment for after dinner or parties and was described as a collection of notable objects. These collections ranged from small drawers to entire rooms that included carefully curated objects such as those belonging to natural history, geology, ethnography, archaeology, religious or historical relics, works of art (including cabinet paintings), and antiquities. Though some cabinets were meant for scientific studies, others were in spirit, a place of the imagination in which those who could afford to do so constructed their versions of the world, such as a monkey with a fish tail.
Our Cabinet of Curiosities exhibition features three artists’ take on a modern cabinet of curiosity expressed through each of their mediums. The works of Stacey Pilkington-Smith, Jenna Webb, and Crystal Whitesides will engross you into a world filled with the strange, interesting, and….. curious.
We hope you enjoy our exhibition and thank Lincoln County Arts Council for having us!
