The goal is to increase each student’s ability to create realistic, three-dimensional drawings. Fine art elements – line, shape, color, form, space, value, and texture – are all covered and build a strong foundation in making art. Students explore shading, light, shadow, proportionality, and perspective in projects like still life, portraits, figure drawing, and landscape. We work primarily in pencil, charcoal, thin line markers, pen, sharpies, and ink. Students discover compositional strategies and ways of analyzing their artistic choices to become more aware of their creative process and develop skills necessary to produce thoughtful personal artwork. Students can begin classes at any level of skill and will excel at their own rate. Each student will receive individual attention and instruction.
Students begin with instructions on essential art supplies needed to get started with acrylics/watercolors and navigate overwhelming buying options. We will go over the different brush selections, painting surfaces, palettes, paints, and more. There will be drawing exercises, helping students build the foundation for painting.
We cover color theory based on the Muller theory, value, underpainting, and observational and technical accuracy on each piece. Students develop painterly techniques such as alla prima, impasto, and glazing. Adult classes allow professional art instruction to serious individuals about learning and studying art while advancing their skills through continuing education.
Students will need to provide a sketchbook, a pencil, and an eraser. All levels of skill are welcome.
